It's the time to form a new team once again with new bonds, new strengths, and even some new weaknesses. Don't worry. It's nothing the Dance Team or the Cheerleaders couldn't overcome.

Tryouts for both squads made everyone participating have an anxious feeling. Some were anxious to get it over with, others were anxious to see who made the squad.

"I just wanted to get it over with!" said Junior Kerry O'Connor.

Either way, people trying out to be a part of the Cameron High School Cheerleaders or Dance Team had to put in the work and extra hours for a position on the squad.

On the Cheer side of things, over 30 girls tried out this year! It was a long process on the night of tryouts.

To get ready for the night took some practicing. 8th grader Allison Herchenroder said, "I had to go to the clinic to learn the cheer and the chant. I had to work on my splits and my jumps. I had to practice a lot."

The girls went into the CHS gym in partners to demonstrate the cheer, the chant, jumps, splits, tumbling, and spiriting.

Two-by-two the girls went into the gym and then came out on the other side after they were done. A lot could happen in the gym. Kerry O'Connor said, "I randomly started to do a toe touch when they told us to spirit off and made a fool of myself. I just laughed it off."

After everybody tried out, the judges took a couple hours to tally out the scores and then let everyone come back into the gym. Below are the results of those try-outs:

Football Cheerleaders--Juniors Brenna Branson, Kerry O'Connor, Lena Blackburn, Lindsay Thompson, Madalyn Bonderer, Pepper Young, Sophomores Brittany Assel, Sean Brier, Sarah Bachman, Freshmen Abby Curtis, Kelsey Mattox, and Whitney Parks.

Boy's Basketball Cheerleaders--Juniors Kerry O'Connor, Lena Blackburn, Lindsay Thompson, Madalyn Bonderer, Sophomores Brittany Assel, Sarah Bachman, Freshmen Abby Curtis and Whitney Parks

Girl's Basketball Cheerleaders--Sophomore Sean Brier, Freshmen Destinee Mathews, Kimberly Hurst, 8th Graders Jessica Anderson, Kenzie Sloan, Lauren Miller, Marilyn Mace, and Siara Cleeton

Wrestling Cheerleaders--Freshmen Casey Fisk, Laura Sloan, Megan Knutter, and 8th Grader Allison Herchenroder,

On the Dance team side of things, the girls also had a lot of effort they had to put in. The process was similar, yet totally different than the cheerleaders. Like cheerleading tryouts, the girls trying out for Dance Team were in partners.

"They had to perform the routine that was taught to them, and then they had to perform the additional eight counts they had made up on their own to show their creativity," said Sponsor Valerie Hutton.

Out of the 11 girls who tried out, eight made the squad. They are Juniors Katie Ault, Jessica Parra, Sophomores Amanda Estep, Megan Godby, Hanna Parra, 8th Graders Shelby Berkemeyer, Sable Huffman, and Sabrina Parra.

The Dance Team has a lot smaller of a squad this year. Val Hutton says, "I think it will be better [having a smaller squad]."

Now both Dance Team and Cheerleading members have to start preparing for camp. Let the new bonds start to form, the new strengths show, and hard working to be a better squad begin!
