During the month of April the sound of music fills the halls of CHS. Soloists and small ensembles who qualified for state level competition will be headed to Columbia near the end of April. There are many students from CHS who made it to state with their vocal abilities. They are as follows: Senior Abbie Barker-solo, Sophomore Taylor Bogle-solo, Senior Rashelle Burdick-solo, Freshman Ashtyn Clay-solo and Womens 6, Senior Jamie Fitzwater-Womens 6, Junior Erin Intrery-Womens 6, Senior Huston Jack-solo, Junior Molly Long-solo, Senior Lizzie Robinson-Womens 6, Senior Brittany Shaul-Womens 6, Sophomore Emily Simpson-Womens 6, Freshman Daniel Sloan-solo, and Senior Tyler Tvrdy-solo. This year has seen one of the largest turnouts for state finalists from CHS in recent years.

These people will be heading to Columbia on April 29 to participate in state choir. Senior Rashelle Burdick says, "The first night we go to a local mall in Columbia to waste all of our parents money. Then after we leave the mall we go to a local hotel and put our clothes and music in our rooms and swim for hours until its time to eat. After we finally get to sleep we get ready and travel to the University of Missouri to perform our music. Singing at State has got to be one of the best feelings I have felt." For soloists, State is one of the best places to perform because their vocal skills are judged by some of the best judges in the state.

Sophomore Taylor Bogle expressed her feelings. She said, "It's an honor and a privilege to compete. This is an experience I'll remember the rest of my life, even if I get to come back next year, which I hope I do. You only get first experiences once, and I want to make the most of this one." Taylor worked long and hard on her solo and the effort paid off. She also felt she owed CHS choir director Mr. Brian VonGlahn a lot of credit. She said, "Mr. VG helped me learn my solo, and perfect it to the level it was when I received my one. Now we get to work on getting it up to par for state."

Taylor isn't the only one who feels they owe at least a little bit of their success to Mr. VG.

Mr. VonGlahn himself was excited and at the same time surprised at how many students tried and made it to state qualifiers. Mr. Von Glahn said, "I was surprised at how many of my students had made it! All 13 of those kids deserved what they got at contest. They have made me proud to be their teacher and is an honor to CHS." Mr. Von Glahn has said many times that he has some of the most talented students he has seen in a long time. Those who qualified for state this year put in many hour of practice and it obviously paid off. We wish you luck and hope they will maintain their victory streak.
