Think learning a new language is easy? Let alone compete with one? Thursday, March 25 Cameron High School's Spanish 3, 4, and one student from Spanish 2 competed at Missouri Western's Foreign Language Day. The students were allowed to choose to compete in categories that they have practiced prior to the event. There were seven different categories for Spanish or French students to participate in. Cameron High School won first place in 4 out of the 7 categories. The categories were:

-Poetry Recitation- First place--Ashley Pokora; Second place-Dylan Reno
-Lip Sync- First place--Ethan Lowenstein, Caroline Lowenstein, Lindsay Thompson, Caleb Watson, and Allison Zeikle
-Great Moments in History- First place-- Joseph McDaniel, Alex Menendez, Jessica Parra, Ashley Pokora, and Dylan Reno
-Video Commercial- First place--The whole class [including Mr.Douglas Hansen]

"I think we did quite well," said Spanish Teacher Douglas Hansen. "We took 14 of our Spanish 3 and 4 and 1 of our Spanish 2 students and out of the seven competitions we won first place in 4 of the categories, so it was pretty good."

Spanish 3 Junior Ashley Pokora thought it went well. She participated in the Poetry Recitation, Great Moments in History, and the Video Commercial. "I recited 'Como la Cigarra' from memory for the Poetry Recitation and I was Ben Ussef and the narrator performing in El Cid for the Great Moments in History." She received a trophy for coming in first place for the Poetry Recitation and she won a $1,000 scholarship for Missouri Western along with the other students who participated in the El Cid Great Moments in History skit.

Junior Joseph McDaniel, Spanish 3, was also in the Great Moments in History. "I was El Cid in the skit," said Joe, "We all studied our lines hard to try and do well."

Congratulations to Spanish 2,3, and 4 students  for a job well done at the competition. The class' hard work paid off with the winnings to show it. This is the third year that Cameron has competed at Missouri Western's  Foreign Language Day, and they continue to be a force to be reckoned with.
