CHS's Spring Fever Reliever was filled with many fun and crazy activities. -

The school year is getting closer and closer to the end. While some students get stressed about the end of the year creeping up, we have the Spring Fever Reliever week to loosen things up a bit. Every year right before Spring Break, we have a week filled with dress up days and activities. This year it was March 29-April 1, the week before Spring Break. The dress up days and activities were as follows: Monday- Pajama Day and Obstacle Course, Tuesday- Twin Day and Trivia Day, Wednesday- Hippie/Woodstock Day and Charades, Thursday- Opposite Gender Day and the Atom Game. Thursday night there was also a dance called MORP.

Student Council Sponsor Mrs. Dawn Stuedle is one of the people in charge of setting it up. She explained how the dress up days and activities are chosen. "The Student Council has a meeting and everyone pitches in their ideas. We write them all down and give everyone a week to think about which ones they like best. The following week they vote on their favorite ideas. After the dress-up days and activities are established, we then assign everyone to different committees that deal with each of the days and decide how exactly they will work."

It's not really known why or when the Spring Fever Reliever started, but it has been a tradition at CHS for a long time. Mrs. Stuedle explained, "I'm not entirely sure why we do this, but I think it started because it's kind of like cabin fever. It happens when the weather starts getting nicer and everyone is ready to get out. We're in school for a long time with the same routine and it's just a nice little break we have to do things out of the ordinary. It's always around the time when the weather starts getting nicer." Whether or not the students decide to get into it, they are still happy to have a fun week before break.

Some students choose to get really into it while others act as if it's just another school day.

Senior Raelene Blanton was an avid participant in Spring Fever Reliever. She went all out for every dress-up day and volunteered to participate in some of the games too. Raelene explained, "I love dressing up as goofy as I can and going all out for the dress-up days. I don't know why anyone wouldn't dress up because it's an excuse to look like an idiot for an entire week! But I have so much fun with it."

Freshman Kevin Thompson, on the other hand, wasn't so active during the Spring Fever Reliever. He didn't dress up for any of the dress-up days or participate in any activities. When asked why he didn't participate he explained, "Being a freshman, I wasn't sure if anyone actually dressed up or not. I didn't want to come to school all dressed up, especially on a day like 'Opposite Gender Day', and be the only guy dressed like a girl. I do everything I can not to make a fool of myself and I'm pretty sure I would have made a fool of myself if I dressed up."

Participating in the Spring Fever Reliever is entirely an optional thing, but most students have a lot of fun if they really get into it. "I think a lot of students enjoy it, but they get out of it what they put into it," said Mrs. Stuedle.

That is exactly right. Raelene went all out every dress up day and she had a blast. However, Kevin didn't get involved at all and it seemed like another ordinary week to him. We have Spring Fever Reliever week so students can get a break from the regular school routine and to get them excited for Spring Break. So why not make the best of it?
