In school you get lots if chances to do things affecting your future later in life.  The third grade class is getting a chance by going on a field trip to Earthworks on Thursday, March 11th.

Earthworks is an experimental science learning program in Kansas City.  It's located in the caves used sometimes for trucking under the Missouri-famous theme park Worlds of Fun. While the whole third grade staff is participating, third grade teacher Mrs. Sandra Noelsch had the scoop on the third grade's upcoming trip. "It's a project where the kids get to be scientists for a day, and do experiments on the animals assigned to them prior to the trip," says Noelsch. The students were assigned animals to study in class prior to this trip, and they'll get to study the animals even more on this fun-filled trip. The grade will be gone all day on the trip, and won't be home until an hour after school's dismissal.

The third grade students are really excited to be going on this trip, some more than others. Jared Groebe is very excited, and even mentioned he might want to be a scientist when he grew up. "I'm really excited to be going because I'm really interested in animals, and I want to learn more about my animal--the Scorpion," Jared. He also said he wants to learn more about the animal's habitat, and even mentioned a good friend of his was even in the same habitat as him so it should be an enjoyable trip.

Jared isn't the only student excited about the upcoming trip though. Shannon Padgett is very excited to be going as well, and said she also wants to be a scientist when she grows up. "I'm very excited about going because I like animals, and I want to learn more about them," says Shannon.

Mrs. Noelsch also mentioned many students have come back to her and said the trip to Earthworks was one of the best field trips they've had the privilege of taking. Obviously this year it will have the same affect because two kids are already saying they like to study animals, and to be scientists. So if all goes well it will have the same affect on the third graders this year. Have fun third graders!
