What do you get when you put seven teams, four rounds, first place and second place? You get the MEC Conference Event at Maryville, MO on Saturday, February 28. Cameron High School's academic team was up early on Saturday to win first and second place at the meet. JV, which consists of Junior Ryan Markle, Sophomores Clint Caselman,  Hannah Goebel, and Justin Persell, and Freshman Adam Ussher and Daniel Sloan won first and Varsity, which consists of Seniors Huston Jack, Ethan Lowenstein, and Corbin Bogle, Junior Kaylie Botts, and Sophomores Taylor Bogle, Zane Clark and Chris Pratt, won second. Huston, Zane, and Kaylie won Varsity all-conference honors while Ryan and Justin won JV all-conference honors. They won those honors for answering the most questions correctly.

Varsity Coach Mrs. Glory Fagan was very proud of the academic team. "I am proud of my team because they have worked really hard and I've got some students who really excel at academic team. Huston, Ethan, and Corbin have been in academic team for all four years they have been here. The students work hard, but they have a lot of fun," said Mrs. Fagan.

She is not the only one who is proud of the team though. "Our team is pretty successful. We cover every subject in our practices pretty well," said Ryan. Taylor is also proud of the team. She said other schools have classes for academic team and Cameron doesn't and the team still beat them. The team members enjoyed the conference meet immensely.

"The entire team makes the meets fun. I also enjoy answering the questions. I hated getting up early on Saturday, but it was worth it," said Taylor. The team prepared for the meet by attending practices and studying with each other.

"I think we did really well, but we can always do better. There are still some things we need to work on but I think we did pretty good," said Taylor. Ryan agrees with her. He thinks there are still a couple really small things they need to know.

Even though Ryan and Taylor think the team could do better, the community should still be very proud of the academic team. They worked hard to get first and second place and they will work hard to win the upcoming meets. The Tank would like to wish them good luck for their next meet. We would also like to offer a congratulations to Huston and Ethan, who are both reporters for the The Tank, and Kaylie, Ryan, and Justin for winning the all-conference honors.
