Everyone has their flaws, whether they can't be punctual to save their life, can't be trusted with a secret, or aren't dependable. My major flaw is I am a procrastinator, I always have been, and unfortunately for me, I probably always will be. I know I have a task to get done, but I end up putting it off until later. I don't know why I always wait until last minute, but I do with most tasks.  I was curious to know why people procrastinate, so I researched the topic.

According to the website PowerHomeBiz.com, the four reasons why people procrastinate are poor work habits, feeling overwhelmed, trying to be perfect, and you'd rather do something else. Having poor work habits and rather than doing something else are probably the best explanations to why I procrastinate. My mindset is usually if I wait until last minute, I'll be under pressure to get the task done and I work better under pressure. According to the website, having this mindset just means you have trouble prioritizing tasks, organizing, and scheduling time. So much for winning "The Most Organized" award in the third grade.

There are some tasks where my procrastination is at an all-time high because I despise doing it so much. I'd rather have to touch a tarantula than be writing a report about a boring subject. Cleaning my room is another task I can't stand doing. I share a room with my sister and between the two of us we have so much stuff. On top of that she likes to keep everything, so trying to clean our room is punishment. I've tried attempting to clean it a few times recently, but I always find something I didn't know we had and get distracted by it for hours. I'm pretty sure finishing cleaning that room is an impossible task, so for now everything is just going to remain cluttered and in piles.

When it comes to doing homework, my procrastinating problems are the worst. For as long as I can remember, instead of doing my homework right after school, I would always waste time doing something unimportant and start around 6 o'clock. Now, depending on how much I have, I usually still do the same thing. On the weekends, including when I have nothing to do, I generally wait until Sunday night to do my homework. Even with this editorial, I spent about two hours voluntarily shoveling snow before I sat down and started writing.

Putting an end to procrastinating would probably be my parents' dream come true, not to mention I wouldn't feel guilty putting off the important tasks. They can get pretty frustrated with me when they see me doing anything other than studying for the major test tomorrow, yet I still do it. I truly can't help myself. Maybe for next year's New Year's Resolution I'll resolve to stop procrastinating once and for all. Yes, I have to wait all the way until next year because I have to give myself time to mentally prepare for this tough challenge, even though I'll probably end up breaking my resolution in a week at the most.

Procrastination is a productivity killer that requires a shift in mindset. It is NOT easy to change, especially if you have been doing it for years. The worst part is that it is habit forming. It's good that you are aware of your tendency to procrastinate, how it affects your studies and activities. Thank you for citing http://www.powerhomebiz.com
