What had 82 young girls, 23 cheerleaders, and 3 supervisors all excited? It's the Cameron Cheer Clinic for 2010! Every Cameron High School cheerleader came together on one day to teach the future cheerleaders of Cameron what it takes.

"It takes a lot of time and dedication. You have a lot of games to go to and a lot of things to do around the community," said Senior Tiffany Hamilton. Tiffany was one of the five leaders for the groups at the clinic.

Each group represented a different color and a different class. The purple group taught stunting, the green group taught jumping, the pink group taught chanting, the orange group taught crowd involvements, and the blue group taught the fight song. Each group was allotted the same amount of time with five different groups of the 82 girls. This just made the girls even more excited to see each different part of cheering.

Senior Ashley Neid said, "I think it makes them really excited that they get to be a part of cheer-leading."

"They're so enthused to do it! They all look forward to it each year, and they get to wear Cameron Cheerleader shirts. They think that it is awesome!" said Senior Rashelle Burdick.

Ask any cheerleader--the girls were bouncing off the walls! However, the cheerleaders taught them what it takes in four hours. There was a pretty tight schedule to follow. Each group received 20 minutes with the girls.

It wasn't all just about work and becoming a cheerleader though. The girls had some downtime with cookies and played a wide variety of games from Little Sally Walker to Down by the Bank, and even played Cookie Monster and Down to the River! It was a day filled with excitement. All of this prepared for the one performance on February 9th.

So on the big day, every girl found their cheer buddy and headed to the stage to get ready to line up on the high school gym floor. After each cheerleader had their girls lined up they began showing what they had learned at the clinic. From doing a tabletop jump to the WILD chant the girls performed during the Junior Varsity and Varsity Girl's Basketball games. It took about ten minutes to show off a four hour clinic.

The girls were proud of themselves, spiriting after every cheer, chant, and jump. It was a job well done. This was only the first chapter in some of the girls lives towards being Dragons Cheerleaders. For others, this was their last day participating in the camp as a learner. Now they have to go through the process of tryouts to finally become a cheerleader in High School. Either way, the future holds a lot of talent for our school. Only in the clinics for years to come can we see what the younger schools hold and what we can expect for Cameron Dragon Cheerleaders.
