You've always had to worry about teens slacking on the job, but it used to be you'd have to worry about teens sleeping on the job, not using Facebook and Twitter. Recent polls show teens today feel they have the right to be on Facebook and Twitter while they are working. Over half of the teens who took the poll said access to be on those sites could make an impact on what career they will choose. They are more likely to pick a career where they are allowed on those sites without having consequences.

A lot of teens use their phones on the job, whether it be for Facebook or Twitter, or to simply text their friends. For example, Senior Matt McCanon admits to using his phone at times while working at Dairy Queen. "We're only supposed to use our phones on our breaks, but I've used it while I was working and I got in trouble every time I used it!" explained Matt. However, he said other people use their phones too, and although they get yelled at for using them, nothing is really enforced to stop them from doing it again.

Senior Kyle Smith is also not allowed to use his phone or networking sites while working at Wal Mart. He explained, "If you get caught using your phone by the store manager then you will get fired, but I don't know of anyone who has been fired for that." He doesn't use his because he thinks it's too big of a risk to take the chance of getting fired just so you could see all of the Facebook updates.

On the other hand, Senior Halee Tharp works for Debby Hahn at Prudential-Snook Realty and has access to a computer all day. Unlike most other teens, she is allowed to get on Facebook,Twitter, and other networking sites as she pleases, but she chooses not to. Halee explained, "I'm allowed to use my phone and get on the computer for whatever I want. I really don't use the computer all that much though."

There are many teens who use networking sites and their phones while they are working, but it could be they just want to rebel. The only teen out of these 3 who doesn't try to use her phone or networking sites is the only teen allowed to use them. You never know, but maybe if teens were allowed these privileges they wouldn't try so hard to abuse them.
