The Cameron Dragon Band is fundraising again, but instead of the money going towards their next trip to Florida, they are saving it for a new trailer. While on their trip to Florida this summer their trailer, with all of the instruments and uniforms, broke down.

"The trailer broke down in Mount Vernon, Illinois," said Band Director Blake Duren. The band passed through Illinois on their way to Florida.

"When we were going to Florida , there was a difference in the height of the road and it caused the axle of the trailer to break," explained Band Director Shane Jones. They still had to get the instruments and uniforms  down to Florida with the kids, and fast. They had to get the old one off the road and a temporary one to finish getting to Florida.

"It cost us an extra $700 or so to rent another/repair the old one, tons of headaches, extra man hours, and gas money," said Mr.Duren.

And to make matters worse, the trailer isn't theirs, it was loaned to them.

"There was a member in the community who loaned it to us. Once we got back [from Florida], we paid to repair it and returned it. We [have] used that trailer for the last three trips to Florida," said Mr.Jones. "The band will own this one [the new trailer]. 'Cameron Dragon Band' will be on the side!"

Clearly the band needs a new trailer to carry the students instruments and uniforms to and from competitions. They have just finished the trailer and it is ready to be picked up. To help pay for this equipment the two directors have come up with the 'Cameron Dragon Band Sponsorship Program'. This program is a way for the band to get money to pay for the trailor and businesses a chance at advertising. The local businesses in Cameron have an opportunity to donate money to the Cameron Band and receive advertisement in return.

"Other bands in the area have done this with success, so we thought we'd try it as well," said Mr.Duren. This program allows businesses to support the band and in return receive a decal with their business on the trailer.

"We'll put a 'thank you' in the newspaper and a decal on the trailer depending on whatever lever their donation is in. It [the trailer] will be a rolling billboard with their names on it," said Mr. Jones.

The levels consist of "White Level Sponsors" at $100, "Black Level Sponsors" at $150, and "Gold Level Sponsors" at $250 or above. Not only will they receive a decal on the trailer, they will also receive a certificate of Sponsorship to hang in their place of business, Newspaper article listing the sponsors, business name listed in 2009-2010 concert band programs, and receipt on school letter head acknowledging tax deductible donation.

This program is a way to help the band purchase this trailer, and it is a great opportunity for businesses to get in step with the Marching Dragons. For more information, email Mr. Jones at sjones@cameronschools.org or call CHS after the break.
