Parents, do you remember having to get up early to check the T.V. for your child's school closings? How unappealing it is?

Students, do you remember having to get up and get ready for school, only to find out there is no school? THAT'S the worst.

So stop it!

At Cameron High School AlertNow has changed all of that. With the AlertNow system parents and students can get phone calls, e-mails, or both. The system is used to alert parents and students of snow days, the make-up day to that snow day, and school activities. It is a very useful system the parents, teachers, students, and even administrators love.

"AlertNow is a way to communicate with parents and students. We mostly use it for school closings, but you can announce sporting events, and music the high school puts on. You can target specific people you just want to send a message to. I get on the computer and I record a voicemail and once I'm happy with that I hit send and it will go out to all the phone numbers in the system. I also type an e-mail to send to all the e-mails I have. We don't have to call everyone and tell them school's closed," said Parkview Principal Mr. Dauner, who serves at the Communications Director for the district as well.

Parents also love the system for its efficiency and convenience. "My family and I live out in the country. AlertNow e-mails me so I know my daughter will be home alone and when they will make up school," said Parent Glenda Adkinson.

Parent Rhonda Parra says it is nice to not have to get up in the morning to turn on the T.V. She also said AlertNow helps her plan for the upcoming holidays. She uses both methods of communication, getting the phone calls and an e-mail. Rhonda also thinks there are a few advantages to using the AlertNow system. "The system is an extra reminder of early out days. I usually get the message before the news would. I don't think there are any disadvantages to the system," said Rhonda.

Glenda disagrees with her. She says there is only one bad thing about the AlertNow system. The system used to call her cell phone and e-mail her, but the calls stopped. The system now only e-mails her and she only has e-mail at work. Other than that, she love the system.

Like all things with technology there can be glitches, but problems like Glenda's can be easily overcome by a simply visit to the district website.

The AlertNow system is loved by many, but a few parents still haven't signed up for this free opportunity. Those parents can sign up at any time from the schools website, www.cameron.k12.mo.us. Simply click the 'Alert Now' button just below The Tank newsfeed. There is no reason to not sign up for it. It is a great system the school doesn't have to pay for, thanks to a generous donation. Cameron Schools would like to thank Farmers State Bank for paying for the AlertNow system. It has been very helpful, convenient, and efficient. Anyone can sign up and there is no deadline. So get 'Alerted Now' and get a little more sleep in the morning!
