Jazz Choir sings beautiful songs at the Christmas concert -
Advertising
Most students enjoy a snow day...unless you are an extremely dedicated choir student.  The annual Christmas concert was December 13 at Goodrich auditorium.  Even though there were three snow days the week before the concert, that didn't change the date of the concert.  The choir missed out on 2 vital practices the week of the concert, but they stilled managed to pull of the concert with a bang.

Even with the snow some students are still dedicated to choir, such as Sophomore Braiden VanBrunt. Braiden said, "I thought that missing those days would really hurt us, but it didn't that much." Braiden has been in the choir for two years since he was a freshman.  He is also in Jazz Choir, which performed as well. Braiden enjoys being in choir and especially Jazz Choir.  "I'm just really glad we didn't have to move the concert because they [the concerts] are really fun."

Snow days can be tough on teachers...especially if they have a concert that week! CHS Choir Director Mr. Brian VonGlahn (VG) said, "We really could have used those extra practices, but we can't control what mother nature does."  The concert consisted of the mens and womens choir, Jazz Choir, and mixed choir. The men's songs consisted of Aurora Borealis and Have You Heard. The girls sang Still, Still, Still and Bring the Torch Janette Isabella. The Jazz Choir sang Christmas Celebration, Big Band Santa, and We Wish You a Jazzy Christmas. The mixed choir sang Angels We Have Heard On High, It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year, Oh Holy Night, and Joy to the World. "I think we still did very well with the snow days." says. Mr. VG

For some choir students this was their last concert. Senior Kyla Cooper has been in choir for all four years of her high school career. Kyla is also in Jazz Choir. Kyla said, "We could have done better in the concert, but for only having one rehearsal the week of the concert I think we did a pretty good job." Kyla has always liked singing. Kyla said, "I was really nervous coming into the concert with the amount of snow days we had just had, but by the end I was really happy with how we sounded."

Even snow days won't deter the CHS Choirs. It's just like the choir motto for the CHS choir, gven by the late Mr. Dave Goodwin. "Sing loud, don't stop."
