At-a-glance

Last year the stands were packed with Crazies and now this year there are holes every where. What happened to our Cameron Crazies? -

It used to be when you walked into the gym or on to the bleachers you would see a huge crowd of high school students being the loudest people there the entire game. Then after the game you hear people talk about our great our school spirit is. This year when you walk into the gym or onto the bleachers, what do you see? You see only a few students trying to keep our school spirit alive. What happened to Cameron Crazies?

The Cameron Crazies are the students who go above and beyond to cheer on and support the athletic teams. Some of their antics include dressing up, painting their bodies, and performing cheers they have made up in previous years. The Cameron Crazies have been around for at least 15 years, so why are our Cameron Crazies dying down now?

Volleyball Coach Mrs. Becky Harrold has a theory. "I think it depends on the sport, I think the Crazies are doing really good for the football team; they have been to all the home games and I know they have been to the Maryville game. Other sports we have to earn the support--we can't just expect them to be there when we haven't earned it. My girls love the energy the Crazies bring when they are at the games and we also love when the other school is distracted half the time on what the Crazies are doing, what they're wearing, what they're saying, and it provides us with a little bit of an advantage. In the beginning of the season we had a few Crazies coming, but then we started to straggle so...I understand we have to start winning to get them back out."

Unfortunately for Mrs. Harrold and the volleyball team, their season is over. Now the team is left scratching their heads about how to 'bring back the crazy'.

Outside Hitter Emily Carr explained, "I think last year we had a lot of seniors on the volleyball team which encouraged more of the people involved in the Crazies to participate, and record wise we were more successful last year due to a more experienced team. It really helps when the other team sees that a lot of people care enough to go to our games it is very intimidating for the other team and it always adds pressure on us because you want to do well in front of your peers. I would definitely like more Crazies at our games, but when our record gets better I think they will come, but for this year football has really taken precedent over volleyball, whereas it was the opposite last year."
If the Cameron Crazies help these players get more motivated and they get the crowd energetic, then why are the Cameron Crazies slowly disappearing? If you want to be a Cameron Crazy, it's a pretty simple process! Get some friends, show up to the games, and start showing your school spirit. Lets bring the Cameron Crazies back!
