President Barack Obama is the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize winner. Wow! Not even a year in office and he has already won the Nobel Peace Prize. This award is not easy to receive. You see, to be nominated you have to be a person thought of creating peace in some way. Usually you have already done this before you are nominated, not to mention before you have received the award. I guess there is a first time for everything, because Barack Obama won the award for the peace he is "going" to create.

From what I have seen of him, in the last election and his presidency he has done nothing but create contention. He doesn't even come close to some of the people who were  nominated.

In case you don't know who he was up against, here's just a few.

Greg Mortensen, Co-founder and Executive Director of nonprofit Central Asia Institute, was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize this year. According to a newspaper in Montana, the "Bozeman Daily Chronicle" For the past fifteen years Mortensen has built over 80 schools in remote places in Pakistan and Afganistan. He is trying to further the education of youth, because he wants smart leaders for the future. Mortensen has overcome many obstacles, including his own potential death, to put up these schools. The magnificent thing is he did all this before he was nominated.

Among others who deserved this award is Dr. Denis Mukwege. According to the British Newspaper The Independent, this man has worked his life to help victims of rape. On an average ten women came in every day. Most of these women were raped by multiple men at the same time in public. Then after that they were tortured. Mukwege has helped over 21,000 women. Those women must sing praises to his name for the help he gave them.

And let's not forget those who have gone before the President.

People still praise past winner Mother Teresa. According to nobelprize.org, she dedicated herself in the service of her fellow man. She helped anyone who crossed her path. She built homes for orphans and nursing homes for people with leperosy and who were terminally ill. She herself would nurse the people with skin diseases back to health. She would dig out maggots with her own hands out of their wounds. Mother Teresa was completely selfless person and DID those things.

I can now see how Obama is so easily comparable to Mother Teresa. Obama and Theordore Roosevelt are like identical twins. Roosevelt won the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to create peace between Japan and Russia. According to nobelprize.org, Roosevelt offered himself to be the mediator between the two countries. Roosevelt was the reason for the peace treaty between in Japan and Russia in 1905.

Obama's future peace is far better than any of these acts of kindness. How can you award a man something when he hasn't even done anything?! He could end up being the best president this country has ever had, but we don't know that! He can't just say he is going to do something--he has to do it!!  Mortensen, Mukwege and the other 202 nominated actually did the things they were nominated for, but evidently those efforts, despite their completion, aren't worthy.
