"...One Nation Under God..." A very controversial phrase in the Pledge of Allegiance. I have no problem with this phrase, but some people would like to see this phrase erased from the Pledge. Thanks to the media, that very small percent of people in America is all we hear about. "The Times" named Michael Newdow, the forward atheist "Person of the Week" back on June 28, 2002. He has since then been pampered by the press.

The Times Magazine said, "We should all thank Newdow for giving us a reason to hope that one day, in the not-too-distant future, we will return to the America of September 10, 2001." Little does The Times know this country has been a Christian nation from the day it was born. I am not the only one who trusts Him. From before this country was even started, people put their trust in God. This whole country was based around faith in God.

When delegates from the colonies met to make a new government, they were fighting back and forth on what to do, and one of our founding fathers, a guy you might have heard of, Benjamin Franklin, said we need to pray for God's help.

There are paintings of President George Washington kneeling at his bedside praying to God.

We go down through the ages to the Civil War and both the Confederates and the Union prayed for help from God to win the war. President Lincoln said, "...this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom." This country has always been voting in religious presidents.

Michael Newdow seems not to notice this fact. About four years after Newdow was named "Person of the Week," he was at it again. This time though it was for the phrase "In God We Trust." This phrase is located on the back of all American currency, and, of course, in the pledge. Newdow said it violated his first amendment rights. The court dismissed the case. In no way does it violate his rights he is still able to believe what ever he wants to believe.

Newdow is back at it now in federal court, and he can fight all he wants, but he is not going to win. This country has, and will always be ,a religious country. He can not force God out of the country when so many want to keep Him in.
