What do Blue Valley High School, Grandview High School, Shawnee Mission South High School, and Cameron High School have in common? They were all nominated for Starlight Theatre's Blue Star Awards for the fall musicals. Cameron didn't just get one nomination but two. Senior Caleb Cole as the Voice of Audrey II received a nomination in the "Featured Performance" category  and Senior Morgan Breckenridge as Audrey received the nomination for Actress in a Lead Role . It was a long shot to even be nominated for one award. Cameron is the smallest school to be involved in Blue Star program, which is put on by Starlight Theatre and recognizes metro theatre programs for their hard work. The Cameron High School Drama Department was up against some tough competition. It was hard to imagine the nomination would come to CHS, but two nominations is quite an achievement!

Caleb said, "I thought about getting the nomination and hoped for it. I felt confident in my performance, the feedback I got was really positive, but by no means did I expect it. I guess it wasn't completely out of the realm of possibility."

Desipte high hopes, both students were in shock.

"It was such a long shot, I didn't even really considerate because it was such a long shot. I thought the production went really well, but I didn't really expect myself to get nominated." It was a shock to receive the nomination but it couldn't have come at a better time," said Morgan.

Caleb said, "I was pretty shocked. It is a pretty big deal to be nominated. The fact that I got it this year, my senior year, and Morgan got it at the same time, is pretty cool we went through it and got it together." Caleb was not the only one who didn't see it coming.

Morgan said, "I was really completely surprised. They [Directors Ms. Harper and Mr. Williams] kept it a secret very well. I wasn't expecting to be nominated, for something like that. Since we are such a small school and participating in the Blue Star, you are up against so many larger schools."

There are a lot of big schools. Cameron is the smallest public school and then right above them is Kearney High and Platte County High. The chances of getting nominated were slim, but both Morgan and Caleb have always been full of talent. They're influence has affected others around them.

Co-Director Mr. Williams said, "Morgan and Caleb tend to provide morale and leadership. They always had their stuff done when it was supposed to be done. These are two kids who deserve this nomination."

With Morgan's nomination she got the chance to sing a solo from one of the songs she sung in Little Shop of Horrors. The excitement was stacking up to her big moment.

Morgan said, "I am the kind of person to where I don't get excited until I am actually there. It was kind of hard to imagine singing on stage at Starlight Theater. I was really excited."

These two actors will leave big shoes to fill next year. They have both put in countless hours of hard work to get where they are. This nomination was just a dream, but now is a reality.

Seniors Caleb Cole and Morgan Breckenridge hold up the Blue Star Awards Banner given to them because of their nomination for Best Actor in Featured Performance, and Best Actress in Lead Role.
