As we say goodbye to another school year, a few of the extracurricular activities are just wrapping up with spring concerts. One of those is band. Band had their spring concert, Band-A-Rama, on Thursday, May 14 at 7:00 p.m. Not only did the high school band play, but so did the 6th-8th grade bands and the Special Music Class.

It was two hours long, but it went really well and the band members enjoyed it. "It was really long and hot but pretty enjoyable." said Senior Chelsea Caldwell. Senior Brittany Klever also thought it was fun.

Since Chelsea and Brittany are both Seniors, this Band-A-Rama was their last concert in high school. "I am sad it was my last concert in high school. It was the last time I got to see all the members in band," said Brittany. They put a lot of effort into their last concert.

Preparing for it wasn't easy but they prepared themselves for it as much as they could. "It was rather iffy before the concert because some people don't pull their weight as much as others but I think we did pretty well," said Chelsea.

Brittany agrees with Chelsea. "Before the concert I thought we would do ok. We weren't as prepared for it as we should have been, but in the end we ended up being as ready as we could have been. It went pretty well," she said.

Band Director Mr. Jones thinks the band members were as prepared as they could be. "I thought they were ready. There is always something you wish you had time to fix, but it is what it is and they did a good job," he said.

Along with performing, some of the band students received awards. The Drum Major Award went to Samantha McDonnel and Molly Long., the Golden Shoe Award went to Ashley Jones, the Driven Award went to Scott Walser, the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award went to Aaron Balliet, and the John Phillip Sousa, the highest honor possible, went to Brittany Klever.

The directors also gave out Directors Awards to two people in each grade. Only two students in high school received them though. Those students included: 6th Grader Andrew Carr, 6th Grader Aimee Cameron, 7th Grader Jacob Forsythe, 7th Grader Emily McCoy, 8th Grader Ashton Clay, 8th Grader Adam Ussher, Freshman Michelle Price, and Senior Trent Jordan.

The band went out with a boom this year, though the year is not quite over. The marching band will in action one more time next week as they perform at Disney World in Florida.

For now though, all the bands gave a wonderful performance at Band-A-Rama while having a good time. Everyone enjoyed listening to the middle schoolers and the high schoolers perform beautifully. Congratulations to all the students who won awards. The community cannot wait until they get to hear the bands play again next year, right here in Cameron!
