Colin Brown and his Father, Dave on the Missouri Field. -

Colin Brown, a former walk-on offensive line for the University of Missouri Tigers and son of Turning Point Director Mr. Dave Brown, was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs on April 19, 2009.

Colin said "This was a dream come true being drafted by the Chiefs. This is something I have wanted to do my whole life. Everybody has dreams; I just didn't know if mine would come true. Some days I felt like I could make it and then others I wasn't sure. I have played football ever since I was in 3rd or 4th grade, but football wasn't my favorite sport. I wanted to play college basketball really badly, but that didn't work out so I played football instead."

Mr. Brown, Colin's dad, said, "Colin was never interested to go to college to play football. He thought he was going to be a basketball player and when things didn't work out there he turned to football. Once he went with football things have just progressed and he went from a walk-on to a scholarship athlete to a part-time player on different teams to a starter, and this is just another step. You can't predict what is going to happen, but fortunately this is working out for him. This is a process; being drafted is just the first step. It's something that you have to work at every day. You never know what the future brings; he could be a Kansas City Chiefs player one day and be unemployed the next. There is no guarantee with this. This is just another opportunity, but hopefully he can continue what he is doing and play for a while."

Coach Rash, football coach for 15 years and currently a football coach at Cameron High school, says, "To be drafted by a college team is usually pretty rare. First of all you have to make it to a college program from high school and that's pretty rare itself. I don't think we have anybody from Cameron going this year, and once you make it there you have to work even harder than you already were. If this is something a football player wants to do to be able to achieve this goal I think they would have to spend a lot of time in the weight room, be coachable, and they need to be able to listen to the ideas that their coaches are giving, and another really important thing is they need to be determined and have a desire to get there."

Colin Brown has had many opportunities in his life. This is just another step.
