$0Cameron High School is home to some talented athletes. Not only are they talented, there are several students breaking Cameron records. Their coaches, parents, their fellow students, and their community should be proud.$0$0 $0$0One person who is very proud of the record breaking athletes is CHS athletic director Scott Archibald. "It's a great thing; any time our kids are doing anything that is excellent, like breaking records, it's always great. We've seen records be broken from time to time he 2004-2005 seasons were also big for record breaking. It's especially exciting to see the older records get broken and to see just how far these individuals have come. It sets a precedent to show how much hard work our student athletes put into their sports," he said.$0$0 $0$0The high school puts on athletic banquets at the end of the school year and the school will recognize these individuals. "We have a lot of good coaches and some talented kids here at CHS. We'd like to see records broken every year," Mr. Archibald said. "Also, if these individuals have the self-motivation, they will do well as student-athletes in college. It takes a special kind of person to do college sports," he added.$0$0 $0$0$0Raelene Blanton, Record: 7 varsity soccer goals in one game$0$0Junior Raelene Blanton has had a natural gift for soccer for many years. She started as a 5-year old in the state of Connecticut playing for a traveling team. After moving to Missouri at 10-years old, she continued in competitive soccer, playing for traveling teams in Chillicothe and St. Joesph. She later advanced to a club team in Kansas City called Futura.$0$0Even with all this experience, Raelene was shocked she had actually broken a record. "I was excited, surprised, and kind of overwhelmed when I found out. I never expected to break a record. It's really cool to be in the stats book and be remembered for it. That means a lot," she said. "I wasn't especially confident going into the game against Chillicothe (she scored 6 goals breaking the record, next game vs. KC Lutheran scored 7). I just thought I have to pass and hustle and things just happened," she added. $0$0Raelene is extremely grateful to her parents and coaches. "My parents have supported, pushed, and just really dedicated themselves to me in soccer. They have driven me all over the state and they are so supportive and proud of me and I love them. Coach Mayne, too, has believed in me and he's been a huge part of how I play," she said. Since the big game, Raelene said she hasn't stopped smiling and is even more motivated.$0$0 $0$0Emily Carr, Record: Triple jump 34' 8'1/2$0$0Emily has broken the high school record in track and field for the triple jump event and she's only a freshmen. "I feel lucky I guess. I still have a ways to go," she said. "My parents are wondering how far I can go, too. They are very encouraging. They have been really supportive as well as head coach Meyer and coach Wenck.$0$0 $0$0"Coach Wenck has helped me so much by teaching me drills and coaching me in this event," she added. As for the districts and state competitions, Emily said, "Our district is stacked in the triple, but I'm hopeful."$0$0 $0$0Mitch Hatten, Record: High Jump 6'6 1/2$0$0Sophomore Mitch Hatten a state qualifier from last year and hopes to do the same this year. "It felt great breaking a school record and becoming a part of Cameron's track history. I've worked really hard over the past summer trying to improve myself for this year," Mitch said. $0$0"My parents are very proud of me. My dad is definitely proud because both my older brothers competed in golf and I think he is happy that I did something different," he said. Track and field is something Mitch would want to move on in, "I think it would be great to do track in college and I hope I can make it that far."$0$0$0Jocelyn Kilmer, Record: Long Jump 17'5"1/2, Pole Vault 8ft.$0$0Senior Jocelyn has been competing in Track and Field all her high school years. Breaking the long jump record as a sophomore with 16'10"1/2, as a junior breaking her own record in long jump with 17'5"1/2, and breaking the pole vault record with a jump of 8ft. "I think it's pretty cool to hold a record over the school," she said. "My parents are proud of me and my coaches have been a huge part in this, 'also you don't want to get beat by freshmen'," she added.$0$0 $0$0Kemper Kellerstrass, Record: Pole Vault 14ft.$0$0Senior Kemper Kellerstrass set an impressive record with a jump of 14ft. Ironically the record was held by his own father. "I was pretty excited breaking a record and especially because it was held by my dad. It's great to of finally set one and I expect more things to come," he said.$0$0$0Records were meant to be set and broken. Cameron athletes seem to have dominated school records this year. Keep on keeping on athletes.$0
