On Wednesday, February 18, CHS students took a trip to Grand River Technical School (GRTS) in Chillicothe to visit the classes they offer for students. Votech offers hands-on training to learn the skills for their future jobs or careers. The students who went to Votech for the visit chose two programs they wanted to see. The students also had to attend a general program. The General program informed students what Votech expects and promises to students.

Not all of the students visited the programs they wanted to see at the same time. GRTS had three different sessions which were split up evenly. Some of the programs Votech offers include: Child Care Services, Health Services Technology, Collision Technology, Welding Technology, Automotive Technology, and Computer Services Technology.

The bus left the high school at 7:50 and the students returned around 12:00, returning to their third hour classes for lunch. The students had to make up the classwork from their first and second classes. Before the students could go on this visit they had to return a signed permission form. The counselor who chaperoned this visit was Ms. Grossman.

Sophomore Rebekah Ademak decided to visit the Health Services technology and the Child Care Services programs. "I plan on going to Votech to take the Child Care Services program. I really enjoyed the visit there," she said.

Some students were surprised about what they found out on the visit. For instance, Sophomore Tyler Streeter said, "I was surprised on how much you can make if you are a veterinarian. Its a lot more than I thought it would be!"

Veterinary Services are one of many Health Services projects GRTS offers to students.

Votech offers students three high school credits, one-and-one half per semester. Some programs also offer college credit hours.

Students who want to attend Votech need to fill out an application and turn it in to one of the counselors. The staff at GRTS look through the applications sent in and pick out the attendees based on attendance and disciplinary records. One of the requirements for attending some of the programs at GRTS is 95% attendance through high school. The students won't be attending Votech this year. They will attend starting next year. The students who do go to GRTS will miss the third and fourth hours of the day. Students who go to Votech will not be able to be in choir or chorus.

Some students have changed their minds on going to Votech. Sophomore Amber Shepherd said, "I don't think I'll go to Votech next year. It isn't what I thought it would be."
