A new skate park coming to Cameron is causing the skateboarders of Cameron and some neighboring towns to rejoice. The skate park has been approved to be built by the soccer fields on the west side of town. This will help improve Cameron as well as give skateboarders something to do. The park is a reason many skaters are trying to improve and maybe stay out of trouble around town.

Junior Dylan Cunningham said, "I can't wait for the skate park to go in because I actually have a new place to skate except my deck at home." With more and more places to skate in Cameron, kids could stay out of trouble and have more hobbies to spend time on. Even though I've only been skating for about four years, and I haven't skated much in the past couple years, I am exited," said Dylan.

But will it help kids stay out of trouble around town? "It will help because we won't get yelled at for skating in public places because we don't have a place to skate now," added Dylan.

Right now, there really is no place welcoming the skaters in town.  "Not really because now we get yelled at for skating in the street from one cop, then yelled at for skating on the sidewalk by the next," said Junior Nathan Thomson.

We all recognize police are around to keep us safe, but skateboarders give off an image as destructive to the public, "It's because we get yelled at no matter where we skate at, and I doubt that a skate park will help keep us out of trouble," said Nathan.

But will this add to the town of Cameron? Nate thinks it's a possibility. "Maybe...I think people from smaller towns will come here, but I don't think it will be enough to make a big difference in Cameron."

The new park can add to the town in more ways than one. What did others have to say? Junior Witty Giles thinks the park sounds like a lot of fun. "I am exited because it will be a blast. I can't wait." The skaters with more experience seem to be more exited, "I have been skating for nine years and I can't wait," said Giles. "I think it was approved to keep kids out of trouble, but I think that its true purpose will be to have a place to hang out," he added.

Not only skateboarders will be enjoying a new skate park though. Senior Brandon Turner said, "I cannot wait because it will give us somewhere to skate that is always open everyday, and we wont get in trouble...okay....as much trouble. Roller skaters are also intrigued by the new park in Cameron.

Right now you're probably wondering, where d
o roller skaters skate now? "I go to the rink because it is the only place to skate and stay out of trouble." He added, "I have been skating for about five years, and I think the park will help keep kids out of trouble."

It seems kids think they will stay out of trouble if they have a place to go and occupy their time. It will help, keep kids off the streets and give police less to do according to  Brandon. It will help all around.

A new skate park in Cameron will add to Cameron and everyone win, but especially with less complaints and damaged property around town. A skate park in Cameron, Missouri will not only help to improve the town but will provide another place for kids to spend time and make stories to tell their whole lives.
