Barack Obama giving a speech on economic issues. -

As of January 20, 2009 Barack Obama was inaugurated into office as the first African American President to be elected. History has been made and will continue to be made throughout the next years he is in office. Some of the main topics Obama has had to debate include his view of the war in Iraq, abortion, same sex marriage, the economy, health care, faith, education, immigration, and homeland security. Americans seemed to have liked his proposed ideas and wanted to see him proceed.

CHS Sophomore Tyler Daniels was a McCain supporter, but is hopeful for Obama. "I would of liked to see McCain win, but I hope Obama will do a lot of good for our country as well as others," Tyler said. Tyler agrees and disagrees with Obamas proposed ideas. "I don't like the idea how he wants to get out of Iraq. I like how he really wants to better the economy and wants to help the education," he added. "I think he will be one of the most historical presidents and I think he will try really hard to represent what he stands for and who he is," he said.

CHS Junior Kyla Cooper shared her thoughts about President Barack Obama, "I thought he was the right choice for this major role in our country. I think he will do very well and bring change," she said. "I like how he is pro-choice on some issues. I feel that it's totally up to you to make your own decisions and not have people tell you it's not right," she added.

CHS Junior Kyle Smith is skeptical, but hopeful. "I really think he could really help our country if he tries. I think he could change some of his decisions, but what he proposes will balance out, I don't know a lot about him, but I think he was a good choice to be chosen as the first African American president and a big change. I really want minimum wage to increase and think his first order of business should be the economy. I think that should be the biggest concern to him as president."

Barack Obama means "One who is blessed" in Swahili. Americans are hopeful the blessed on could bring change or make change. America can hope for the best and look forward to the future. It's time to embrace the first African American president and become the country we could be and should be. Barack Obama promises change for our country and we should give him a chance through support and hope.
