The time has come for 2009 seniors to prepare for college. The cost of college is on everyone's mind. College is not cheap if you didn't know. There are millions of people out there who are just waiting to give away their money to help the future leaders of the world. Seniors should be jumping for joy at the chance for receiving free money.

Guidance Counselor Mr. Green said, "There is a lot of money out there for scholarships. Most money for college comes from merit scholarships, which a college or university recognizes a person for their G.P.A., ACT score, or if they are in some kind of sport, activity, or music."

In February there are local scholarships which are all completed on a common form, which will be on the web for students to fill out. Those scholarships will go to Cameron students only.

The guidance counselors receive scholarship forms through the mail, but what they are noticing is the scholarships are not being taken advantage of. Mr. Green said, "What we are trying to do is encourage kids to go to the web and fill out the forms and to take advantage of the scholarships."

ACT Prep teacher Ms. Fagan said, "If you get a scholarship now and it is renewable it can end up saving you thousands of dollars just during the course of your college education. If you had the same amount in loans, you could be paying it back for thirty years. If you have ten thousand dollars you are really going to be paying back fourteen thousand dollars." There are so many scholarships out there a student could pay for their whole entire college career.
