Cameron High alumni visited Mr. Williams LA IV classes Thursday, January 8 and Friday, January 9. They provided useful advice and tips they have obtained in their first semester of college.

Connor Kellerstrass explained how college is more independent than high school. "There is not as much interaction with teachers in college." He told the class to attend class and take good notes.

The alum also explained about how independent they have to be if they are going to be living in the dorms. There is no mommy and daddy to take care of your needs. It's a big step in life since college determines your future.

The conversations were not strictly over school. The alum made sure to get it through the seniors heads just because "they are in college, they can't get away with everything" as Connor put it. It is very easy to get in serious trouble. Control is a big key to staying on top of things and getting good grades. Studying is a huge part of it as well!  College costs a lot of money, so students were warned they need to be serious about it.

Mr. Williams invited several former Dragons to help out the college-bound students and six agreed. They were Connor Kellerstrass, Brooke Assel, Taylor Love, Dakota Fletcher, Erika Baker, and Dalton Gentry.

Luke Shoemate thinks the experience should become an annual thing. "It really helped me to put it into perspective and it helped to see people that I know saying this instead of random people."

Connor said, "In college, the professors do not care whether or not you're in class. They are not afraid to fail any student. For many classes there are no assignments, just tests. So if you do badly on one then its hard to bring your grade up."

Luke said the best advice he was given was to apply for a lot of scholarships and get all his applications done early. With the school year halfway over, the counselors and teachers are pressing the seniors to get it together. This presentation was just one of many ways Cameron High staff is helping them out.

The whole talk was an eye opener, from former Cameron seniors to current seniors.
