How does a band on the move keep well fed? Of course, they have to eat on the move! Though a taco might not be the most obvious selection, it worked for the Cameron High School Band who held a Walking Taco Work Auction at the high school on November 9. They served walking tacos, cookies, and drinks for $5.00.

"The Walking Taco Work Auction is a student labor auction where we [the band] auction off a four hour work period to the highest bidder. It is a fundraiser for the kids to help pay for the trip to Florida. We [the band directors] are having the kids make a list of skills they have and people will bid on them based on those skills," said Band Director Mr. Jones.

The band has the honor of playing at Walt Disney World at the end of May, but with this honor also comes the bill. They had to figure out a way to raise the money. This idea came from brainstorming with the band booster parents when they were wondering how to raise money for the band's last trip to Florida. The band members were really looking forward to participating at the work auction.

"I'm excited to be raising money. It's a good chance to raise money. Some people can't get that money on their own," said Sophomore Dalton Knott.

Junior Tiffany Hamilton was also excited about the work auction but not the working part. "I'm partnered up with Junior Kelly Thompson and we hope to babysit or clean a house," said Tiffany.

It seems all the band members thought the auction was a good idea.

"I think it is a good idea because it's an easier way to raise money. We are actually raising it and not getting it from our parents," said Freshman Haylie Huffman.

"I think it's a good idea because it's raised a lot of money in the past for kids to go to Florida," said Dalton. Tiffany also says she thinks it is a good idea because it has raised a lot of money in the past. The members who were auctioned off to work will work for four hours doing whatever the highest bidder wants them to do.

"Pretty much anyone could have bid on the students but the target crowd was mostly the band parents and the family friends," said Mr. Jones. Many parents showed up to bid on the band members, but so did other students in the school.

The Florida-bound band members had a great turnout to the Walking Taco Work Auction. They raised a good amount of money but they still have a lot more to raise. They raised $1,750 at the auction but they still have about $25,000 to go. The band members are really excited to keep on raising the money to go see Mickey Mouse and his friends at the end of May.
