Twenty
years from now, when the men on each side of the table look back on the
abandoned NBA season of 2011-12, what will they say it was all about?
What were the issues? Why couldn't they agree?
Right
now the owners are blaming the players, and the players are blaming the
owners. If only the other side of the table would have shown common
sense then an agreement would have been made long ago that's what each
side is saying about its former partner.
In
my personal opinion I believe that many years from now the whole NBA
staff including the players will look back at this situation and blame
themselves for this commotion. The players turned down the deal that the
commissioner tried to give to them on November 14, 2011. The deal was
that the season will start next month on the 15th but since they couldn’t get their first pay check and fewer games the turned the 2011-12 season down.
Many
people think that this is the worst time for the NBA players to shut
down their season because of the bad economy. With all the endorsements
most of the players have, they will still get paid a good amount of
money to take care of their families. Some players have thought about or
have already gone overseas to play basketball for a different country.
For example, an overseas basketball team offered Kobe Bryant $6.7
million contract to play for them.
An article in (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com), stated that ‘’these
are professional athletes whose egos and pride certainly came into play
here. And the hard-line owners either didn't recognize that or didn't
care.’’
The
players wanted a fair deal to get all of their games back but they are
so upset at David Stern (NBA commissioner) because he is being blamed.
The owners of all teams are upset also because they can’t make their
money either without the season being resumed. The NBA players have
every right to keep fighting for their season because this is their
career. I stated that players do not have a backup plan for after their
NBA career especially rookies who have been drafted.
People
really understand why the players are upset. Most of the people out
here that do not even play basketball are upset. I really agree with the
players fighting for their season because they can’t provide things for
their families without this season and especially if they do not have
back plans or jobs. With the economy already bad this was the worst
thing that could ever happen to the NBA because people can’t even get
regular jobs out here in today’s society.
All
games of December have been canceled causing the league to lose
millions of dollars and losing a total of 324 games in all. This whole
situation has hurt lives and many families of the NBA. To prevent this
from getting worst the owner should bring back the season for
entertainment for the fans and the lives of the NBA players and their
families that they have to take care of.
