Dr. Rivera, CHS principal, has a plan. It is a plan that will change the reputation of Campbell, a plan that involves community service.

While it is not yet implemented - not even close, merely "nothing more than a dream now" in the principal's own words- it is unique in the sense that it not only implores students to do community service, but their parents, as well.

The big idea was first proposed during a speech given by Dr. Rivera at the spring 2010 Open House. Different organizations would partner with and sponsor Campbell and students would go to these organizations and perform community service throughout the school year.

"It would help students learn philanthropy and also help us create partnerships,” explained Rivera.

The community service, however, would not be mandatory, just strongly encouraged.

Rivera pitched the idea of a Campbell Civic Hall of Fame to celebrate students excelling in community service and an honor chord at graduation. Rivera is also using this plan to get parents more involved in school.

"Ideally, every student's family would be present at the school at least once a year,” said Rivera.

While Rivera's plan is ambitious, he is not naive about how it might go over with Campbell students.

"I think, at first, students will be a bit reluctant, but I think if we can get the leaders of clubs at Campbell on board, then they can use their leadership to convince the rest of the students,” Rivera predicted.

Rivera implemented a similar program while at the helm of South Cobb.

"It was like a badge of honor for them,” he said.

The big idea is to completely change the way people look at Campbell and our reputation.

"We've got to be better,” Rivera said. "I want the community to know out there what we know in here, that there are great people that walk these halls."
