While she may seem like a quiet and shy girl, Campbell High School senior, Kelli Richardson
sets the example of staying involved in her school and her actions speak
loudly.
Kelli is a part of the REAL Majority, SGA, and Peer Mediation.
Clubs that set standards and have community involvement, Kelli takes pride in
being a part. These days, it is hard to continuously make the right decisions.
Kelli seems to succeed.
During Kelli's junior year of high school after having taken
one of Mrs. Russel's classes and at the insistence of one of her friends,
joined Distributive Education Clubs of America, also known as DECA. Skeptical
at first, Kelli attended a meeting. There, she realized how interesting the
club was and how being part of DECA could prepare her for a future career in
marketing.
Participating in DECA, Kelli has learned so many things and
has gotten so many great opportunities. One of which was a trip to New York in December where
she and the other DECA members toured the NBC studio, the financial district,
and the infamous Ground Zero. The members of DECA managed to go by paying a few
fees and attending all the meetings in New
York.
The highlight of Kelli’s trip was the Rockettes at Radio Music
Hall. She found them awe inspiring in their
performance and was simply amazed by their unison. Guiding Kelli through her
life are her mother and her grandmother who she looks up to a great bit.
“They both showed me that hard work is something you should
not fear,” said Kelli.
Kelli was taught that from hard work comes admirable qualities
and these would get her far in life. Succeeding in life is something that Kelli
was taught to do, and will accomplish by hopefully attending Spelman or Mississippi State University.
At one of those well-known colleges, Kelli would like to major in Environmental
Science or Biomedical Engineering. Kelli would like to have a Law degree or a
PHD in Biomedical Engineering. As with most of Kelli’s peers, her major could
change and she is still unsure of her future. At this time, Kelli just wants to
graduate high school with honors and
be accepted into one of her two college choices. To Kelli,
completing high school is the stepping-stone to the rest of her life.
Something that Kelli would always want to remember is the
diversity she experienced here at Campbell
High School. To Kelli, no
other school in the county has as much diversity as Campbell. Only at Campbell
can you have the opportunity to eat lunch with people from India, Nigeria,
Great Britain and South Africa.
It is definitely a memorable aspect of Campbell
to all of its students.
“If you wash pots for a living be the best pot washer in the
state” is Kelli’s motto of life.
