Janet Barresi won the election for state superintendent and defeated Susan Paddack with 55% of the vote.

“To all the teachers, principals and students, I got in the race to improve children’s education,” Barresi said.

Barresi, now retiring from 24 years of dentistry is focusing solely on education reform. From her past experiences of starting two charter schools, Independence Charter Middle School and Harding Charter Preparatory, Barresi brings a fresh perspective to the position of State Superintendent.

Barresi plans to attack the educational issues to the best of her knowledge and better the Oklahoma education status.

“The children have won,” Barresi said.
