Campbell Decker has lived in Goshen her entire life. For those of you who have also lived here your entire lives, you most likely realized there is a world outside of our horse racing town, a very big, very fast world. Campbell Decker wants you to see it.
Campbell’s family is somewhat unconventional. She has a great relationship with her mother. They talk about everything and she acts like another 17 year old. Her brother Colin, a freshman, is just starting to come into his own as a person. She seems very proud of him.
Campbell may be known for her role as Ally in the Goshen drama production of Flyin’. She says what she liked about Flyin’ was that it was a serious play, dealing with such issues as bulimia and abuse. She says serious roles take more out of you, as opposed to comedies.
Outside of school Campbell is working on a Shakespeare play with an acting studio she’s been part of for the last ten years. In this time, she’s done twelve plays and one musical. She’s also had roles in two movies, including “The Thing about My Folks” which is frequently on HBO. Even with her extensive acting career, Campbell says she is tired of it, and doesn’t want to continue with it. What she really wants is to take pictures.
“What I want to be able to do is not just capture a moment, but make people think. There’s so much art out there that is just pretty. I don’t want to do pretty art. Pretty is easy.” Campbell is waiting to hear back from a few art schools where she wants to pursue photojournalism. She is really excited for college but is still not ruling out joining the Peace Corps.
For those who are chasing big dreams, she has some advice:
“Do what you have to do to be happy, as long as you aren’t hurting anyone else, and don’t be afraid to shake things up a bit!”
