Obama's Health Care Plan Needs Support Obama's Health Care Plan Needs Support

On Sept. 9, President Barack Obama gave his health-care address to Congress and the nation, assuring America that the economy stabilized with the bold and decisive action his administration has taken since January.

The president made clear that he was not just here to cure crisis, but to build a future.

“So tonight, I return to speak to you about an issue that is central to that future, and that is the issue of health care,” said Obama.

There are millions of Americans who do not have health insurance and another 14,000 people who lose their coverage every day.

There have been cases where people have died because they lost their health coverage when needed the most due to pre-existing conditions that some didn’t even know they had. That fact alone is saddening.

It’s wrong to deny saving a life because of a piece of paper that says “I have insurance.” Every American has the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. No one should have the option of taking that away from someone. I can honestly say that I’m excited about where President Obama is going with this new plan.

For the many people who do not currently have health insurance, President Obama's plan is to offer quality affordable choices.

Now, Obama wants to make it illegal for insurance companies to drop coverage when you get sick, or water it down when you need it most. His plan is to not limit the amount of coverage you can receive in a year or lifetime.

Everyone should have a chance to get some sort of medical attention when needed. People get sick all the time and need to be taken care of, not subjected to denial of treatment because of the mighty dollar. So for the people who don’t have coverage, help is on the way.

Those who already have health coverage are part of President Obama’s plan, too. The plan for those who already have health insurance is to make it work better for them.

Many Americans get worried about losing their coverage if they switch jobs or if they lose their jobs, but with the direction President Obama is going with this health care plan it seems as though their worries will be no more. He doesn’t want to change the plans they already have, just to make them work better for them.

The idea to follow his plan through is to create a new insurance exchange, a market place where individuals and small businesses will be able to shop for health insurance at competitive prices. This creates an incentive for companies to participate in this exchange because it lets them participate in competing for millions of customers. As a result of that, customers will be able to bargain with these companies for quality insurance.

It’s time for everyone to be able to get involved with how insurance is provided. Why shouldn't we be able to bargain for the best quality of coverage at affordable prices? It's only our health here at stake. The businesses and Congress get their health-care this way and if we are all part of America, then we should, too.

The president has really thought this plan through. He has thought about everyone before making any decisions. He even wants to find a way for those who still can not afford the lowered-price insurance available in the exchange by providing tax credits based on their needs, and the companies that want to participate in this new market exchange will have to abide by the consumer protections he has given them.

President Obama wants to make having health insurance required for every American. If every American got coverage, we wouldn’t have to worry about if we can afford that surgery or even just a regular check up. Millions of lives can be saved this way.

He is really trying to work with us and for us. So, for one of the Republican congressmen, Rep. Joe Wilson R-(SC), to shout “you lie” while Obama delivered his speech, shows that we all are still not all on the same page.

It makes you think how we can get all of what needs to be done with this new plan with people in our government like that. I support President Obama 100 percent and believe in his methods for getting everyone in America health care.

Despite that Republican congressman, I know that our country will be just fine because of the leadership we are under.

Yes we can make this new plan work and we will.
