MLB 2K6 proves superior to past games

The EA Sport’s line of Major League Baseball video games is over. 2K Sports new MLB video game is due out in stores this spring.

EA Sport’s MVP baseball line was bought out by 2K sports, resulting in MLB 2K6 being the only MLB video game available. EA Sports did, however, come out with a college baseball game earlier this year.

MLB 2K6 offers a wide variety of special features. One of the new key features in the game is the World Baseball Classic mode. This will be the first video game to have this mode. This mode will have all 16 teams with their real logos and uniforms. It will also be set up in the authentic all-world tourney structure. This is a nice timely feature that should be interesting to check out. It will be a nice alternative from playing with actual Major League teams.

Another feature in the game is the ‘Inside Edge’ mode. 2K Sports put three years of actual scouting reports and analysis into each player. This should give the game a real feel to it. Highlighting a player’s strengths and weaknesses should make the game more realistic. Making the players as good as they should be is sometimes overlooked in sports games. Going in depth into making their rosters this year might solve that problem.

In the 2K Sports basketball line, NBA 2K6, they have a feature called the ‘shot stick’. This ‘shot stick’ allows the player to choose the type of shot he wants to shoot. MLB 2K6 introduces the ‘swing stick.’ This will allow the player to control power swings, contact, check swings, and bunts. This is yet another feature that brings a life-like feel to the game. It is sometimes difficult to understand all of the controls in baseball games. The ‘swing stick’ creates the sound that hitting the ball should make.

Flashback replays have also been added to give the game a TV like presentation. These will provide the player with replays of big strikeouts after they happen and important plays that happened in the previous inning. I felt like MVP Baseball needed to have more of a TV presentation feel to it. With these new action replays, MLB 2K6 should provide players with that feeling.

The game is set to come out somtime this March. The price of the game ranges from $39.99-59.99 depending on the system it is for. The PS2, Gamecube, and XBOX versions will all be $39.99. The newest system, XBOX 360, the game will cost $59.99 which is the normal cost for all new 360 games.

All of these new features make the game sound like it should make all baseball fans forget about EA Sport’s MVP Baseball line. The game is due out in stores this spring, a little later than some baseball fans would like. It looks like sport video game fans will have to continue playing Madden for another month until MLB 2K6 comes out.
