Athletics-the term in today’s era has derived a superficial connotation and has lost much of its meaning.

In these times athletics seem to be unnecessary and optional activities that have too much emphasis placed on them. All sports have a much more positive influence than that.

Sports are more than the few athletes who demand seven-figure deals when they can easily live with six-figures or the sore losers who inappropriately complain. They teach teamwork, good sportsmanship, and how to face tough challenges that judge character.

Scout is branching out from a 16-page newspaper published every other week to have special eight page sports issues published monthly.

The new project: Scout Illustrated. A group of nine Scout staff members make up the elite sports-feature writing staff. This group produces news-magazine designed layouts that feature stories pertaining to college, professional, and Lake Central sports teams.

As a branch publication of Scout, Scout Illustrated will strive to focus on the competitive sports world and highlight the highs while commenting on the lows. Our focus is to give everyone a high school view of the professional, collegiate, and even high school levels of sports.

Between the two co-Editor in Chiefs, we make a pretty awesome team, but we couldn’t do anything without a staff of seven other students willing to do extra work to make Scout Illustrated an interesting news-magazine.

It all started with Eric Gehrig, Scout Sports Editor, and Filip Kojic, Scout Staff Photographer. One of their many brainstorm sessions produced the idea for an entire issue of sports writing.

Not only will Scout Illustrated provide more information to the school, but will give members the opportunity to learn as they go and solve new problems.
