Girl’s and boy’s track season has started it up. With many returning runners, both teams look to go far through the season.

“Our goal is to win sectionals again and be competitive in the Duneland Athletic Conference,” Boy’s track coach Rudy Skorupa.

The girl’s team lost the former star Tiffany Redlarcyk to graduation, but still has its core and some young girls coming up.

“We have seniors Vanessa Kobza, Carolyn Pratt, Jill Colella, along with juniors Jessica Genovese, and Susan Allegretti all back this year,” said Girls track coach Mr. Ron Fredrick.

The competition will be huge this year for the boys with meets against conference foes Valpo, Merrillville, Chesterton, and Portage, all good programs.

“Valpo will be our biggest competition this year,” said senior hurdler Brian Kaluf.

Along with the boy’s, the girls also have some tough opponents this year that should give the Indians a run for the money.

“Munster will be key because they are our sectional opponents and also any DAC meets will be big,” senior runner Vanessa Kobza said.

The boy’s team has many key runners this year including Ryan Micheals in the 1600, Kaluf in the hurdles, and Chris Czapla in the long jump, along with the relay teams.

“We have all 4 runners back from our 4X4 relay team which did really good last year so they should do really good. The team consists of Curtis Pratt, Brian Kaluf, Mike Toth, and Chris Czapla,” Coach Skorupa said.

The girls team has high hopes as they look to win their state record 13th sectional is a row.

“We hope to run in 14 meets, the conference meet, sectionals, and the regional,” Coach Fredrick said.

As the indoor season ends, the outdoor season starts where things change. The teams hopes to keep their pace going outdoors.

“We just finished our indoor season and we have had some good performances, but outdoor is a whole different story,” said Coach Skorupa.
