The varsity cheerleading squad has had an up and down year with many members leaving the team. Despite this, the team seems to be in full gear as they prepare for nationals.

“We have had to work really hard because a few girls quit, but now our revised squad is coming back together,” said junior cheerleader Angela Chakonas.

The team has two big competitions coming up which are the Jamfest Regional, which takes place on Jan. 23 and 24 and the Jamfest Nationals, which take place at the end of February.

“We have been preparing for these two competitions for the last few months and we are confident we’ll do well,” said senior Heidi Margeas.

The team has high expectations this year and hopes to finish the season on a high note.

“I think we will finish in the top three in both Jamfest competitions,” said sophomore Stephanie Szewciw.

With the success the team has had, there is always room for improvements.

“We need to start practice on time and we need to stop the negative attitude,” said Szewciw.

The team has had one competition already, and it was the Regional at Ben Davis High School. The squad placed second and made a good showing.

“Even though we didn’t win regionals, second was really exciting for us because all of the squads there were very talented,” said Margeas.

With Nationals coming up, the team continues to work hard, determined to win it all!
