Science Olympiad has been working hard toward February’s competition all year.

The Science Olympiad team’s annual competition is coming up in February. The team has done very well in it in the past and this year the team is hoping for history to repeat itself.

“I think we will do well this year, we have a good team, and the new teacher Miss (Courtney) King is really pushing us to do well,” said senior Anita Sivam who has been participating in Science Olympiad for seven years now.

Many students might not know what the Science Olympiad club actually does, it isn’t just all beakers and test tubes.

“We have a competition with 25 different events, each student participates in four events a piece. The events are split into two groups building and academic events,” Sivam said.

Every Tuesday the group meets to practice and prepare for the competition.

“I am working on the bottle rocket, tower, robot ramble, and I also am working on a plane for the competition,” junior Vince Gallagos said, who has been doing this now for six years.

How the competition works for Science Olympiad is the team goes to Indiana University Northwest for the regional competition, if they place, which they have done several times in the past, they continue on to Indiana University Bloomington for a state competition.

“The competition for the regionals will be held on Feb. 28 at IU Northwest.”

It is crunch time for the team to make their final preparations for their regional match up with other school around the area. If history does actually repeat itself the team can expect another victory for the team on the 28th and a trip down to Bloomington.
