Baseball- The baseball team took Morton to extra innings but lost their season opener 6-5. A.J. Doyle had two hits and one RBI and Eric Summers tied at five in the seventh with a double.

News- Tribune Co. plans to sell the Cubs at the end of the 2007 baseball season. The Tribune bought the team for $20.5 million in 1981 but will sell for $600 million or more.

NBA- After sitting out for six weeks with a dislocated shoulder, Dwyane Wade will try to practice on April 2. The Heat are currently sixth in the Eastern Conference. The Bulls are 44-31, fifth in the Eastern Conference, and locked up a playoff spot.

MLB- In the MLB season opener, Glavine and the Mets beat Carpenter and the Cardinals 6-1. Glavine needs only nine more wins to reach 300 victories. The Cubs lost to the Reds 5-1 in Cincinnati. Jose Contreras gave eight runs in one inning and the Sox lost 12-5 to the Indians.



NCAAW- Tennessee defeated North Carolina and Rutgers beat LSU to advance to the championship.



NCAAB- The Florida Gators defeated the Ohio State Buckeyes to win their second straight title. The 1991-1992 Duke team was the last to win back to back title. Freshman Greg Oden finished with 25 points and 12 rebounds, but Corey Brewer won the Most Outstanding Player Award.

News- Coach Todd Lickliter was named Coach of the Year by National Association of Basketball Coaches. After leading Butler to a 29-7 record and a Sweet Sixteen appearance, he accepted the coaching position at Iowa.

LPGA- Morgan Pressel, only eighteen years old, became the youngest major champion in LPGA Tour history. The youngest man to win a major was Young Tom Morris. He was 17 when he won the 1868 British Open.



News- Phil Jackson, Roy Williams and the entire Texas Western team were inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
