As if the war in Iraq wasn’t disruptive enough, the allegations against former senator Mark Foley have caused quite the uproar in Washington D.C.

The former congressman was accused and is guilty of sending sexually explicit e-mails and instant messages to various underage male pages.  One such message told a page to “Strip down and get comfortable.”

One page who received these e-mails was in contact with Rodney Alexander, a Republican congressman from Louisiana .  This page sent an e-mail to Alexander saying, “Maybe it is just me being paranoid, but seriously, this freaked me out.”

This scandal has literally caused a battle in D.C.  A number of republicans fear that this scandal will compromise their chances in the coming elections.

A large amount of people in Washington D.C. are not only unhappy about the scandal itself, but they dislike Foley’s homosexuality, as well.

I love how everyone thinks Foley’s sexual preference is such a big deal.  Sure, he might be a closet homosexual with the tendencies of a pedophile, but the fact that it alone is causing such drama is ridiculous.

Another argued point about the scandal was the timing.  In various articles, I have read the phrase “October Surprise” again and again.  This phrase, however, is false.  Ken Silverstein of Harper Magazine reveals that the staff at Harper was offered the story five months previous to the “October Surprise.”

From the incident itself to the vast amount of false information given to the public, the whole situation is positively absurd.
