Don’t worry freshman, you’ve almost completed your term as last on the bottom of the social hierarchy. Some of your best times of high school and maybe even worst have already happened, and you might not even know it yet. Take the time to reflect on your freshman year, think about the best parts and the worst parts of your first year. Don’t forget to think of opportunities that have helped you to grow, and be more prepared for your oncoming years at CHS.
“I thought it was a lot of fun I made a lot of new friends and I like my classes,” Mattie Bitting stated, reflecting on her freshman year.
Bitting wasn’t the only one that had a great experience freshman year.
“I thought it was really fun, and I also thought there was a lot more freedom than middle school or ever,” Casey Radner remembered about her freshman year.
High school is a time for growing, but even more importantly, it’s the most fun consecutive four years of your life!
Many freshmen are first surprised to see that high school isn’t as it is perceived in the movies.
Freshman William Johnson explained his misperception of high school prior to enrolling due to movies.
“I know now that it’s [high school] way different than the movies. People aren’t as ‘clique-y’ as they are in movies such as High School Musical, like when they sang ‘Stick to the Status Quo,’” Johnson said. Another highlight of Johnson’s first year was “dancing with all of upperclassmen.”
Even if the year is coming to a close, there are still three more years at Catonsville High School for you to rise above and do your best in everything you can. Take this first year to be the first step in your success. Don’t forget to do your best every year to make your future as bright as CHS prepares you for!
