The agriculture teachers and students arrived at the vo-tech at 3:00 a.m. on Oct. 18 to begin the 12-14 hour process of making apple butter. Approximately 50 students worked on the apple butter.

Two days prior to the cooking, FFA members began peeling and slicing the 53 bushels of golden delicious apples. The apples were cooked in two, pure copper pots. Sugar, oil cloves and cinnamon oils were then added to the mixture. The apple butter was cooked over slab wood for 12 hours and was required to be stirred every 15 minutes. The students made a total of 150 gallons of apple butter.

The FFA members sold pints and quarts of the apple butter and all of the proceeds went toward the FFA.
