Alisal French teacher Ms. Sinibaldi held the second annual fashion show for all her French 1 classes. It took place on May 17 and 18 in room B21.

“ My French classes have been learning about fashion, therefore, this was a good way for them to practice their French would be to put on a fashion show, said Sinibaldi, “ They also have the opportunity to show what they have learned by playing two roles; modeling and commenting, rather than taking a written test.”

The French classes had a month to organize their roles and their description of what they were going to show off. They were to discover how to say everything in French since they had to explain what they were wearing. “My classes decided from a variety of major styles: pajama, county western, punk, the 70’s, summer fashion, dressy (chic), prom punk, and athletic.”

The students were to talk to their group members and find out what kind of clothes they have and what they were going to wear, if they didn’t have the clothes than they were to ask a friend to let them borrow some.

There is one more thing that is needed to make a fashion show great and that is music. The students were to pick a specific kind of music that pertained to what they were wearing. Lyrics with any use of profanity were also strictly prohibited.

“My students in French one are mostly freshman, this is a good opportunity for them to gain self confidence and be able to get up in front of their peers,” said Sinibaldi, “and learn the language in a fun context.”

There were about 30 students in each class that were involved in the fashion show. “I invited other foreign language teachers to come and watch,” said Sinibaldi, “they were going to be given a paper and would write down what they liked.” The show was scheduled to last for about 30 to 40 minutes each period.

This was the classes’ first appearance. They only had rehearsal as a group but not within a crowd of people. Ms. Sinibaldi provided them with a “tip” sheet to make them feel a little more confident. She mentioned that shyness was natural but to try to avoid it because everyone watching them would be impressed that they got up there.

“I liked that we got to be with our friends and got to choose different clothes, but we can improve on the pronunciation of French,” said Mario Casanova.

“I was really shy at the beginning but as I walked I let loose,” said Carla Aguayo. She enjoyed the whole fashion show and hopes to do it again.

The whole point of the fashion show was to practice their French skills and most importantly have fun. “It’s a motivational outcome for everyone,” said Sinibaldi.
