When: Found out in April and received recognition at a school board meeting on the 9th of May.

How: She had to write 200 words on what the scholarship meant to her, also had to submit a transcript and proof of income

Why: I am planning on majoring in psychology or political science and Santa Cruz has very good programs for those majors. I also like the fact that I will be close to home and the financial aid I am being offered by them.

" I feel great. All of my efforts and dedication in my academics and extracurricular activities have been worth it. I have been rewarded with more than $40,000 to pay for college. I think that it is going to be somewhat challenging to learn to live on my own without my mom there."
