Greg Castro, a representative from the American Red Cross came to Alisal High on October 7, 2005 to collect the donations Alisal students and teachers gave for the victims of hurricane Katrina. Mr.O’Hagan and Ms.Kaney organized the donation collection and Mrs. Buessen organized a car wash for this fund. The car wash took place on October 1, 2005 at Alisal High.

The donations were collected by Health Academy Seniors. For two weeks the students walked around school collecting the donations. Julian Lopez collected $78 dollars, the most money collected by a senior. “I felt bad to see all of the devastation from the hurricane. So when I got the opportunity to help I did. Now I feel good that the little money I collected made a difference,” said Lopez.

“The Red Cross appreciates the generosity of AHS students. It was great that the students pulled together to help victims,” said Castro.

Their goal was to collect $500 dollars from students and teachers for the hurricane relief. They collected $739.31 dollars to give directly to the 100 survivors living here in Monterey County. The victims will get the cash to buy food, clothing and other necessities. “This shows that Alisal students care about the people suffering in the world and not just about themselves,” said Kaney.
