Who? Most bands start out as a group of friends in their parents’ garage, putting silly tunes together and playing in school events, parties or wherever they could make their music heard. Eighteen year old Daniel Hunter from PlayRadioPlay a one-man electric/pop band from Aledo, Texas started off in a different direction. Hunter always knew he didn’t want that life for him; playing in small school events just waiting for a big break. He was in a few local bands on his earlier years but always played bass, and was never really listened to. Hunter wanted to break out of that and create his own band (PlayRadioPlay!), and being a control freak eventually doing his own thing was going to be easier. Thanks to Music Tech classes, Hunter was able to fulfill his dream of going solo, he learned to program beats and work with various music making programs that helped him create a catalog of lush electro-pop songs. A high school student at the time Daniels extraordinary talent as the songwriting, singer, producer, and musician won the recognition of many.
What? “I still make music for fun. Not for money, not for girls, simply because I enjoy making music, because I like putting stupid beats together with corny lyrics and dancing like a fool in front of groups of people. My music seems to make people happy, and I enjoy making people happy”- PlayRadioPlay!’s Daniel Hunter. Before ever receiving a diploma, Hunter signed with Stolen Transmission/Island and packed his bags for a year of touring with (Gym Class Heroes, Fall Out Boys and the Young Love, among others) Hunter was ready to unleash his first full- length opus record in early 2007. His debut full- length record for Island is his first unique vision. Hunter a die-hard Cowboys fan named his first album TEXAS; he named it after the love of the state.
Sound: Lyrically, his first tunes took on a surprisingly personal subject, his father’s passing a few years back, along with other problems that followed, eventually led him to turn to music and express himself. This gave him a different and positive outlook on life. That is why PlayRadioPlay! is generally happy music, but its also deep. His lyrics have won comparisons to Conor Oberst, Hellogoodbye, The Postal Service and Electric President. This album is a mixture of electric/ pop – soul music, so if you are the kind of person who is into electric upbeat music you should defiantly check this band out.
Worth the buy? In all true honesty I would defiantly put this CD on my iPod and sing along to it while doing house chores and I am not just saying that. The albums catchy beat and sensible lyrics most defiantly caught my attention and I know it would captivate your. This CD (IS) worth the buy.
Sounds like:
