GOOOAAALLLL!!! The soccer team has kicked off the season with a successful beginning. Now that our school has moved to the T-cal the team has been just as competitive as they were in previous years. Coach Sanchez strongly believes in the future success as of the team.

Sanchez predicts that they will take league and move on to playoffs. They have scheduled tough opponents and are training harder than ever. They are ranked fourth, and are taking very competitive steps to pursue them into achieving a high ranking in the nation. An important tournament in Los Angeles awaits them December 26-30 where they will compete against tough opponents; only the top 32 teams in the nation will be there.

To maintain the momentum that they have until now Sanchez said that “they will need to focus, stay humble, and continue to improve.” No discipline problems have occurred until now and the consistency in this team is there. They are tough competitors and their toughest and in the aim to defeat would be Alvarez and Gilroy. The motivation that the team share is winning a CCS title and what is keeping them alive and active in the field.

David Estrada “Samurai” the lead forward is a tough person to replace along with the strong middle Aldo Meza. Sanchez is very optimistic with his team and mentions that his returnees are playing higher levels. At this point his key players are Pedro Morales who has played varsity since freshmen year and is now leading his defense, Alex Pacheco a very talented sweeper, forwards Tony Meza and Juan Carlos Gonzalez. One of the players who he believes will make an impact from his returnees is Alejandro Amezcua. The difference from this year and last year is the team effort. “I have a team that can’t count on one or two players,” said Sanchez. “So this year it is well-rounded and has a stronger team atmosphere.”

After defeating Watsonville, Sanchez took the victory as a good omen. “It was satisfying after lost two years in a row with them; once at the CCS final and once at the quarter finals. It motivated the team.”

Officer Sanchez is proud of coaching the Alisal boy’s soccer team and is very proud of all his players. He enjoys working with them and that is why he continues coaching. He is a strong believer of his soccer player’s success in the soccer field and in their personal and academic life.
