Background: Stacy “Fergie” Ferguson is a very talented person with an amazing voice. As a young adolescent, Fergie did the voice of Sally and Lucy in the cartoon series The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show. In her teen years she was part of the teen pop group Wild Orchid, which released some albums in the late ‘90s. In 2002 she joined the hip-hop group The Black Eyed Peas and released Elephunk (2003), which earned The BEP their fist Grammy for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group through the mega-single “Let’s Get It Started.” “Don’t Phunk With My Heart” and “My Humps” from their second album Monkey Business (2005) won The Black Eyed Peas their second Grammy for Best Rap Performance by Duo or Group.

What is this?:“Fergie as the Dutchess,” is Fergie’s first solo CD, which was released on September 19, 2006. Sure she has released other hits but none of those can compare to her solo. This CD lets us know much talent there is inside of her and the hard effort she has put into this project’s success. Fergie wrote all of the songs found in her solo with the help of will.i.am and other talented people. In “Fergie as the Dutchess,” will.i.am, Ludacris, Rita Marley and the L-three’s are all featured in through out the CD.

Is it good? – Like Fergie would say, its Fergalicious. Some of the songs in this CD make you want to get up and dance to Fergie’s rhythm, and some of them let you sit, relax for a while and perhaps sing along with her. In the song “Fergalicious,” will.i.am starts with “Listen up y’all cuz this is it the beat that I’m banging is the next s***,” I guess that he already knew that this CD would be a hit. Two of my personal favorite songs in this CD are “Mary Jane Shoes,” and “Big Girls Don’t Cry.” “Mary Jane Shoes,” is a mixture of reggae and a little bit of rock; “Big Girls Don’t Cry” is a more sad type of song but it causes strong emotions to the listener. Some other astounding songs found in this CD are the famous “Fergalicious” and “London Bridge,” both which have made Fergie’s CD a hit. For Fergie’s first solo CD its an excellent beginning for Fergie.

Worth the money?: This CD is worth up to the last penny. The music found in this CD is great beyond belief. If you ask me this CD is worth the whole $12.99 that you would pay at the local Wal-Mart, Target or other record selling businesses just for the plain reason that it is an extraordinary piece of art. Fergie didn’t just focus on one type of music type or rhythm, she wanted something different something unique and that’s exactly what she did. Thanks to Fergie and BEP leader and producer will.i.am, we the audience are able to listen to something new and hip. For all of you out there who haven’t yet bought Fergie’s solo CD what are you waiting for? Go and buy it A.S.A.P!
