At-a-glance

This thing Arrowheadians call “TWIRP” comes around every year, usually the first weekend of February. If you didn’t already know, TWIRP stands for “the woman is required to pay.” January comes along, and the female population goes into a frenzy over who to ask, what dress to wear, and what group to be in.

Kelsey McKibben states,“TWIRP is killer because the woman takes charge!” Some girls love their ability to take charge in the once a year dance while others get anxiety over rejection. It’s like a race; the moment one girl asks someone, the whirl begins. Every girl feels the need to get into gear and ask someone before another girl gets the chance. It’s not even close to what guys go through for homecoming. Guys are a little bit more on the careless side of the spectrum, whereas some girls go into a coma thinking about it.

Sam Luellwitz gives his stance as being on the receiving end of this deal, “TWIRP is interesting to see things from a girl’s perspective because you have to wait to be asked and you’re treated to dinner.” Guys get to feel the anxiety girls all over feel for dances. Though, we all know they would never admit it, it is a nerve-racking process. Some guys disagree with the whole concept of school dances and could care less if they’re asked because they’re planning on rejecting any girl who works up the courage to ask anyway.

Nonetheless, the big day is coming up, February 4th to be exact. And if you hated homecoming, don’t worry; TWIRP is still in the commons! So, ladies, figure out your date, pick out a dress, and have a great night!
