Relient K… Have you ever heard of them? Probably not. Most people haven’t, but they don’t know what they are missing.

Now don’t get scared-- if you look up Relient K you’ll learn that they are a Christian Rock band. Oh, well, then all they do is sing about God, church, and redemption right? WRONG! Yes, there is mention of a few things having to do with God, but there is no law saying you must only sing about God and things pertaining to Him.

Relient K consists of four friends. Matt Thiessen is the singer and guitarist who dreamt of becoming a rock star. Even though his mother forbade him from watching MTV he stole a glace and fell in love with the idea. The other band members are Brian Pittman, Matt Hoopes, and Todd Frascone, the drummer who became part of the band in January of 1998.

The band's music is what some might call alternative rock or pop rock. They don’t always, in fact they rarely, sing about things that have ‘alternate meanings.’ They are singing about exactly what they say, simple things that make life fun. Some of their songs talk about things like Sadie Hawkins Dance, which is equivalent to Arrowhead High School's Twirp, Michel J. Fox, and the famous makeup slogan “Maybe It’s Maybelline”.

They have released seven records in the past four years. “Mmhmm” was their latest record released on November 2nd, 2004. Their other albums include “Two Lefts Don’t Make a Right…But Three do” released in early 2003, “Employee of The Month” in late 2002, “Anatomy of the Tongue In Cheek” in late 2001, “The Creepy EP” in January of 2001, “Relient K” in Early April, and “Relient K 2000 A.D.D.” on January 1, 2000.

The band is well on its way and the money is not a factor. They love what they do and they do it well. You may be able to find them in your city on Winter Jam Tours or on a tour of their own. Christian music doesn’t mean God, God, and God. It means love for things involving life and friendship not things that will bring you down.
