At-a-glance

Long hair dominated the past four years, and stars such as Miley Cyrus and Kim Kardashian have the extensions to prove it. Last year, however, the trend was cut short.

                Literally.

According to Allure Magazine, ‘the lob’ is “a long-bob, or collarbone-grazing cut that's typically worn straight, but also works with loose curls.”

This new trend is everywhere in Hollywood—and Wisconsin girls are also picking up the style.

Celebrities such as Jessica Alba, Jennifer Anniston, and Scarlett Johansson all got the lob in early summer, and the girls at Arrowhead followed suit.

“I got my hair done during August,” says Arrowhead senior Liz Schmitt about her cool new cut. “I needed a style that would work with my thick hair and was as low-maintenance as possible, and this length seemed perfect.”

Other than Schmitt, Arrowhead students Alex Westfall (a junior), Amanda Bauer (a senior), Erin Steiner (a senior) and Abbey Hayden (a junior) got the lob as well.

“I originally got the cut because my split ends were terrible,” says Steiner. “But then I saw the lob everywhere. I like it.”

Be advised: this trend doesn’t work on everyone.

The lob embraces an oval shaped face, such as Anniston’s, by adding width and texture. It also works on a heart shaped face like The Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev has.

However, according to stylechicago.com, girls with wide faces should stay away from short lengths. If you have a round face like Kristen Dunst—or a square face like Demi Moore—avoid the lob and stick with an elongating hair style.

If your face fits, make an appointment and join the lob movement sweeping schools and Hollywood.
