FCPS will hold its annual Art Festival on Friday, March 27 from 6-8 and Saturday March 28 from 12-3 at Kettle Run.  The festival displays some of the finest artwork students have produced throughout the year.

Continuous performances by Kettle Run student choruses, bands, and orchestras will set the mood for the festival while KRHS drama students will put on a performance, along with the tri-county band.  The show will feature both visual and performing arts.  This year’s theme is “Soar into the Arts,” and every school brings an art project that relates to it.

“Last year we built a train car to go with the theme,” art teacher Charlene Root said.  “This year, a specific ‘soaring machine’ of sorts will be constructed by each school to represent them.  We’re working on this contraption that, when filled with helium, should turn out quite well.”

A group of students from Mrs. Root’s 3D Studio class have constructed the soaring machine and put in time after school to get it done for the show.  Made from a variety of materials, the zeppelin will hopefully fly when filled with helium.            Elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools will participate in this countywide art show.  Each FCPS art teacher will bring and display around 40 pieces by their students from their classes.  Faculty will also have some of their own work displayed digitally on a loop at the Art Festival and projected on a screen.  Around 1500 total pieces of art will be displayed.  The show is free and open to the public with refreshments available.  The show provides a unique opportunity for showcasing student creativity.

“It’s an excited new experience getting recognition for a photo of mine,” senior Matt Reynolds said.  “[In my photo,] I depicted a snowy landscape scene with a sunset in the background.”
